We are a dedicated group of advocates, allies, and providers serving Florida’s transgender community and seeking to make a difference in the lives of transgender individuals in the state of Florida. Over the past several years, Florida has witnessed an unprecedented attack on the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, with a particular focus on targeting access to healthcare for transgender individuals. Stop Gap was created to help educate the community about the state of the laws, to ensure folks know their rights, and to keep people updated on the federal litigation challenging these draconian and cruel measures seeking to strip away access to gender-affirming healthcare.

Simone Chriss (she/her) is a co-founder of Stop-Gap and serves as the Board Chair of the organization.
Simone is a civil rights lawyer in Florida and the Director of the Transgender Rights Initiative at Southern Legal Counsel, a non-profit public interest organization in Gainesville, Florida.
She leads federal litigation challenging the discriminatory laws and policies impeding access to justice for transgender Floridians. She has sued the state to challenge each of the bans on access to gender-affirming medical care for trans minors and adults, the Florida law known as “Don’t Say Gay/Trans,” the teacher pronoun ban, the bathroom ban, and more.
Simone co-founded Stop Gap to create a one-stop-shop to house all of the accurate, high quality, up to date information that transgender Floridians and their families, allies, and advocates need in order to stay informed, know their rights, and feel empowered.
Simone has been named one of the “40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association.
